I am not a lady and have no interest in being one. I am a woman and I don’t care too much for abiding by some antiquated ideals or rules. Basic manners, sure. But being lady-like? Get off my jock and take that shit elsewhere.
And doods don’t need to be gentlemen, they need to be a good PEOPLE. In fact, we all do.
That whole thing about chivalry and the man being polite and holding the door for me? It’s not gender specific. I will hold the door for you, you hold the door for me. It’s courtesy.
Look, I guess I could not burp while drinking beer at the bar, eat neatly or keep my opinions to myself, but why? I mean, so I fart from time to time? So I drool coffee on my lap, giggling while reading Tumblr. So I am a loud talker and tend to curse obsessively? Why shouldn’t I? So I can spare you the horror of seeing and hearing me for who I really am? Sorry, that’s not an option.
I sincerely hope that people, regardless of gender, aren’t even concerned about this shit anymore. If they are, they need to check themselves. Whether or not I let you open the car door for me really doesn’t matter in the grand scheme of things. I understand basic manners and courtesy, that is something that we ALL must abide by and extend to one another. But those are things that advance humanity.
